About Jim Ruetz

"One of the most enjoyable parts of my CureDuchenne rides is the chance to talk to all of the nice people I meet along the route. Many have heard of muscular dystrophy, but far fewer had heard of Duchenne and CureDuchenne,” Jim said.

This is the fifth time Ruetz traveled on the open road to benefit CureDuchenne. In 2011, Ruetz took a “bucket list” ride trip to Alaska. He covered more than 7,000 miles, 10 states, provinces, and territories in the U.S. and Canada. In 2013, Ruetz completed the Cajun-Parrot Run which covered 4,300 miles from Wisconsin to Key West, Florida. Finally, in 2015, Jim completed the The Principalities of Europe Motorcycle Ride and covered 2,307 miles by road, visited 13 countries, and traversed 3 mountain ranges. Over the past five rides, Ruetz has raised more than $30,000 for CureDuchenne.

Jim first learned about Duchenne muscular dystrophy through watching American football. “I’m a huge American football and Green Bay Packers fan,” said Ruetz. “When I was planning my first long distance ride back in 2011 (Wisconsin to Alaska), I was watching a Packers football game and Clay Matthews, Packers Linebacker, did a commercial as a spokesperson for CureDuchenne. As I learned more about Duchenne, I reflected on the struggles I had being born with a cleft palate, and how blessed I was that both my son and daughter were born healthy. The more I learned about CureDuchenne and their commitment to find a cure for the disease the more determined I was that I wanted to support this noble cause.”

About CureDuchenne

CureDuchenne is a national nonprofit that raises awareness and funds research to find a cure for Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Duchenne is a fatal muscle disease that affects children. Those with Duchenne are usually diagnosed by age 5, lose their ability to walk by 12 and most don’t survive their mid-20s. Today, there are 15,000 Duchenne patients in the US and more than 300,000 worldwide.
